Flu Vaccination Campaign 2021

This year we will be offering three different flu vaccines according to your age and profile. The three vaccines are as follows

  1. Fluad Tetra – is an injectable vaccine similar to previous years but contanins a small amount of adjuvant to boost your immune response to the vaccine. It is called a quadravalent vaccine as it contains inactivated virus from four seperate viruses which are thought to be the most likely to affect Ireland over the 2021 to 2022 winter season. This vaccine is recomended for people who are 65 or older. Those receiving a Covid booster vaccine may be offered this vaccine at the same time.
  2. Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine – again contains four strains of inactivated virus but without the adjuvant and is recomended for adults aged 18 to 64 with chronic medical conditions, health care workers and pregnant women. It can also be given to babies between six and twenty three months.
  3. Fluenz Tetra – is a nasal spray vaccine which is suitable for children from aged two to seventeen. It contains live but severely weakened flu virus which when delivered to the nose can produce an immune response and protect children and adolescents from the flu.

If you think you should be offered a flu vaccine this year, please contact the surgery to arrange this.
